The Route of It All

Our first video, We had NO IDEA!

Updated: Oct 8, 2021

Our very first video on YouTube contained very little video!

We had no idea what we were doing! You might be asking, how and why did you make a video without video? Good question, we have an answer. You have to start somewhere otherwise you'll never start.

We love photography so when we went to the New Orleans Mardi Gras parade Chewbacchus in 2019 we did what we always did, we took lots of photographs! Inspired by the film maker Ken Burns, known for his amazing documentaries such as the PBS series on National Parks which uses mostly photographs to tell stories, we tried making a video out of our photographs. We're not gonna lie, it was rough. First of all, we're not Ken Burns. In the end, we shared the video. When you watch it, remember you have to start somewhere otherwise you'll never start.

The International Krewe of Chewbacchus, throws a hell of a sci-fi party every year in the streets of New Orleans for Mardi Gras. We had a blast dressing up in goofy costumes and dancing on the sidewalk as the parade rolled by. Each troop in the parade chooses a costume theme and they make all their own self-propelled floats and "throws." Chewbacchus is definitely a must see parade for any sci-fi fan.

Chewbacchus maintains a family friendly vibe. The krewe has such great energy. Check them out: https://chewbacchus.org/ It's been our favorite New Orleans Mardi Gras parade for the last few years. Costumes are not mandatory but if you do decide to dress then you get a much more immersive experience. The costumes don't have to be fancy, just try to make them fun. Our costumes were handmade and each cost six dollars.

Also, yes we are wearing chip bowls as hats on our heads.

Our inspiration were the claw machine aliens from Pixar's Toy Story. Our first video ended up being more of a 2 minute music video but hopefully it illustrated just how much fun this experience was and ultimately it made us want to make more videos.

Since that first time we've really embraced video; no more Ken Burn's style. We even went back for Mardi Gras 2021 to see how things were different the year without Mardi Gras parades. There was no Chewbacchus but New Orleans just can't help but let the good times roll.
